Cyprus calls on Azerbaijan to unblock Lachin corridor
Cyprus calls on Azerbaijan to unblock the Lachin corridor connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia and restore the gas supply to Artsakh.
“Concerned about traffic disruptions in Lachin resulting in the blockade of the supply line in Nagorno-Karabakh. We call on Azerbaijan to restore traffic and energy supply in order to avoid further deterioration of humanitarian situation,” the foreign ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
The blockade began on Monday morning, when a group of Azerbaijanis, who claimed to be environmental activists, stopped traffic on the only road connecting Karabakh to the outside world, citing “illegal” mining activity there. Later on Tuesday, Azerbaijan also cut off the gas supply to Artsakh.
