Parliament majority blocks opposition resolution on Artsakh
The pro-government majority in the Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday rejected debates on an Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) resolution drafted by the opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions.
The document denounced the Azerbaijani blockade of the Lachin corridor, the sole road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, on ostensibly environmental grounds, urging the international community to adequately respond to it and take measures envisaged by the UN Charter.
It also called on the Russian peacekeeping force in Karabakh to take all necessary measures under the 9 November 2020 tripartite statement to ensure the smooth operation of the Lachin corridor and stop the Azerbaijani provocations.
Meanwhile, MPs from the ruling Civil Contract party have started debates on their draft resolution on a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh caused by Azerbaijan at a special parliament session boycotted by the opposition.
