Student march in support of Artsakh held in Yerevan
Students held a protest march in Yerevan on Friday to express support to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) amid the ongoing blockade imposed by Azerbaijan.
They call for international pressure to force Azerbaijan to unblock the Lachin (Berdzor) corridor, the sole overland link between Artsakh and Armenia.
The protesting students announced plans to march towards the offices of various international organizations and government agencies in Yerevan.
Chanting “Freedom to the Berdzor corridor!”, “Join us!”, “Open the lifeline”, they marched through Yerevan streets.
“We must stand together to support our compatriots. We must fight for their freedom and right to life,” one of the students said.
The blockade began on Monday morning, when a group of so-called Azerbaijani “eco activists” stopped traffic on the road, citing “illegal” mining activity in the area. Later on Tuesday, Azerbaijan also cut off the gas supply to Artsakh, which was restored on Friday.
