40 Artsakh children temporarily settled in Armenia without parental care
A total of 1,100 people, including 270 minors, from Artsakh are stranded amid the ongoing Azerbaijani blockade of the only road connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Armenia) to Armenia, known as the Lachin corridor.
More than 200 Artsakh Armenians have been accommodated in hotels of Goris, a community in Armenia’s Syunik Province, after a group of Azerbaijani “eco activists” stopped traffic on the road, citing “illegal” mining activity in the area.
Speaking to Panorama.am on Monday, Goris Deputy Mayor Irina Yolyan said 60 Artsakh children, including a baby, were among those housed in Goris hotels. About 40 of the children have been left without parental car, she added.
"Naturally, especially those children, who are without parental care as their parents have remained in Artsakh, are anxious and are looking forward to the re-opening of the road,” Yolyan said.
“We are trying to organize children's daily routine through some events and initiatives in collaboration with different organizations and institutions. Big cultural institutions organize joint musical events involving Artsakh children, various organizations are inviting kids to educational institutions," the deputy mayor noted.
The official says they keep in constant touch with the organizations and hotels to provide the children's basic needs.
