Students in Yerevan hold fresh protests in support of Artsakh
Students staged fresh protests in Yerevan on Monday to express support to Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) still blocked by Azerbaijan.
The blockade began on 12 December, when a group of so-called Azerbaijani “eco activists” stopped traffic on the sole road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, known as the Lachin corridor, citing “illegal” mining activity in the area.
The protesters marched from Yerevan State University (YSU) to the Armenian government building, demanding that the Armenian authorities ensure the Artsakh people's security.
YSU student Anna Darbinyan said that they had submitted demand letters to the Armenian government, as well as various international organizations and foreign embassies in Yerevan.
“Given that one of the signatories of the November 9, 2020 trilateral statement is Armenia and Armenia is the guarantor of the security of the Artsakh people, we must make sure that the government does not abandon Artsakh. Armenia, in its turn, must submit demand letters to the UN Security Council and Russia," she said.
