Armenian MP: Azerbaijan seeks to solve political problems through Artsakh blockade
Azerbaijan has instigated a humanitarian crisis in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) in an effort to solve its political problems, says senior Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan.
"I continue to insist that the difficult situation in Artsakh is primarily a serious political and security problem, rather than a mere humanitarian issue,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“Azerbaijan has instigated a humanitarian crisis in order to solve its political problems, which poses a major security threat to Artsakh,” stated Abrahamyan, the secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction in the Armenian parliament.
He clamed the re-opening of the only road connecting Artsakh to Armenia, known as the Lachin corridor, and the restoration of free movement along it would only help settle social and economic issues, while the key problems would remain unresolved.
“Of course, it’s important, but it is not a comprehensive solution,” the MP said.
