Critically ill Artsakh patients still need transfer to Armenia, minister tells ICRC
Armenia’s Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan and the head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) delegation in Armenia, Thierry Ribaux, on Wednesday discussed the possibilities of preventing the risks of a healthcare crisis in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) amid the ongoing Azerbaijani blockade of the Lachin corridor, Artsakh’s sole connection to Armenia.
Noting that a patient was recently transported from Artsakh to Armenia through the ICRC mediation, Avanesyan stressed that more critically ill patients still require urgent transfer to Yerevan for further treatment, the Ministry of Health reported.
“During the meeting, the possible transfer of patients from Artsakh and delivery of medicine and baby food in collaboration with the ICRC were discussed,” it said.
Thierry Ribaux highlighted that the ICRC has an office in Stepanakert through which it continues its humanitarian mission and is ready to mediate medical care and medicine supply.
Avanesyan also stressed the importance of providing professional psychological support to the population in Artsakh.
