Red Cross helps transfer seriously ill patients from Artsakh to Armenia
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has facilitated the transfer of three severely ill patients from Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia amid the ongoing blockade imposed by Azerbaijan, the Artsakh health authorities report.
The three patients suffering from serious health conditions, including pulmonary hemorrhage, arteriovenous malformation, left-sided hydrothorax, lung abscess and liver insufficiency, had been undergoing treatment in the Republican Medical Center.
They had been in serious condition for days under the supervision of local doctors, the Artsakh Ministry of Health said in a statement.
“With the mediation and accompaniment of the International Committee of the Red Cross, the patients were transferred to various specialized medical centers of the Republic of Armenia on Wednesday,” the statement said.
For nearly two weeks, Azerbaijani “eco-activists” have blocked the Lachin corridor, Artsakh’s sole land link to Armenia, to protest what they claim is illegal mining.
