Azerbaijan planning fresh military provocation, Pashinyan warns
Azerbaijan is planning new military provocation against Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan warned on Thursday.
"There is every reason to assert that Azerbaijan is preparing new military provocation, including in Nagorno-Karabakh, and the developments raise questions that require an urgent response regarding the activities of the Russian peacekeeping contingent in Nagorno-Karabakh," he told a cabinet meeting.
"I must honestly say that the Republic of Armenia is a staunch supporter of the presence of Russian peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh, but the increasingly visible approach of the Russian peacekeeping troops to become a silent witness to the exodus of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh is unacceptable for us," Pashinyan stressed.
He says Armenia has to work closely with Russia and its other international partners to clarify the issues, prevent further escalation of tensions and achieve a comprehensive settlement.
"I would also like to reaffirm Armenia's readiness and determination to sign a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, complete the border delimitation and reopen regional communications," Pashinyan said.
