Artsakh needs practical steps, not empathy, says parliament speaker
The speaker of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) National Assembly, Artur Tovmasyan has renewed his call for practical steps to end the ongoing Azerbaijani blockade of Artsakh.
In a statement on Monday, he said that 270 Artsakh schoolchildren stranded in Armenia due to the blockade were to attend schools in the town of Goris and the capital Yerevan starting Monday.
“The children have seen their basic rights grossly violated. New Year is a family holiday full of miracles. Unfortunately, no miracle happened for these children from Artsakh,” the speaker stressed.
“Could it be that Artsakh, a small country, and these children, separated from their families, pose a threat to neighboring Azerbaijan or Turkey?
“The Artsakh Republic parliament has addressed all humanitarian organizations, the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair countries and the civilized world. However, our voice is still not heard. The Artsakh issue and the people of Artsakh is much talked about in international platforms. But we don’t need pity or empathy, we need visible and practical step.
“We are a people of hope and faith. Let's hope that our prayers to God will open the door to salvation,” reads the statement.
