Opposition MP criticizes Armenian authorities for 'inadequate response' to Artsakh's air link call
MP Tigran Abrahamyan, who represents the opposition Patv Unem bloc, has criticized the Armenian authorities for their “inadequate response” to Artsakh’s call for efforts to reopen the Stepanakert airport amid the Azerbaijani blockade of its sole land link with Armenia.
“First, the Azerbaijani authorities are trying to convince the international community that they are not behind the blockade of the corridor linking Armenia to Artsakh by eco-activists. If Azerbaijan does not seek the closure of the corridor, it should not have prevented the launch of an air corridor, otherwise state interference is obvious,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday, adding raising the issue would help strengthen Armenian arguments on international platforms.
“Second, amid the absence of a land link, the Artsakh authorities naturally have to consider alternative communication routes, so the launch of air travel is naturally one of the topics under discussion.
“If Azerbaijan does not impede air communication under international pressure even with restrictions, the issue of providing Artsakh with basic foodstuffs and medicine will be solved.
“This issue is not unsolvable, the Armenian authorities just do not take any serious steps to solve these and similar problems, further complicating the situation in Artsakh through their inaction,” the MP said.
