Artsakh resorts to rolling power outages
The Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) authorities have resorted to rolling power blackouts as electricity supplies from Armenia to Artsakh carried out through Azerbaijani-held territory have been disrupted.
In a statement on Tuesday, the power grid operator Artsakhenergo said that a section of the high-voltage power line coming from Armenia was damaged on Monday for still unknown reasons. The accident occurred near the Azeri-controlled town of Lachin, it added.
“Because of Azerbaijan’s unconstructive position, at the moment we are unable to visit and inspect the section for repairs,” Artsakhenergo said. “Therefore, a decision has been made to supply electricity to the country from local generating stations with appropriate restrictions.”
The restrictions will take the form of rolling outages, it said, urging people to reduce energy consumption.
