Military and political situation around Armenia, Artsakh worsening, MP says
The military and political situation around Armenia and Artsakh is becoming increasingly complicated, Tigran Abrahamyan, an MP from the opposition Pativ Unem bloc, told a discussion hosted by the Alternative Projects Group on Wednesday.
"It seems that the situation that we have been talking about since 2018 couldn't be any worse. But unfortunately, we have to say that the situation in 2022 was far worse than it was after the 44-day war," he said.
Abrahamyan stressed within two years after the tripartite statement of 9 November 2020, Artsakh and Armenia were attacked five times, resulting in hundreds of victims and huge territorial losses not only in Artsakh, but also in Armenia.
In the lawmaker’s words, the situation is especially difficult on the border section from Artanish to Tsav, which covers three provinces of Armenia.
Speaking about the situation in Artsakh, Abrahamyan noted: "Azerbaijan has launched a systematic mechanism of action, stepping up pressure on Artsakh with each passing day. Artsakh has been under a full blockade for almost a month now, while the limited movements of the Red Cross and the [Russian] peacekeeping forces, which are controlled by Azerbaijan, have no impact on the blockade. Azerbaijan is following its own rules of the game, which are expected to exacerbate the situation in Artsakh and Armenia.”
The opposition MP also condemned the Armenian authorities’ ‘observer stance’ on the developments around Artsakh.
“Moreover, the statements of Armenia’s official circles further enhance the efficiency of Azerbaijan's actions, putting Artsakh in a much worse situation in terms of international perception," Abrahamyan said.
