Edgar Malakyan joins Pyunik
Pyunik FC has a new player. 32-year-old midfielder Edgar Malakyan has joined the team, it said in a statement on Thursday.
Malakyan is a Pyunik alumnus. In the 2007 season he became a winner of the Armenian First League playing for Pyunik-2 and in the same year on November 10 Edgar Malakyan made his debut in the main team of Pyunik during an away match against Gyumri Shirak of the last day of the Armenian Premier League. In summer 2012, he moved from Pyunik to one of the strongest teams in the Czech Republic, Viktoria Plzeň.
During his career, Malakyan also played in Czech České Budejovice, Banatsi Yerevan (currently Urartu), Alashkert, Shirak Gyumri, Ukrainian Stal, Kazakh Zhetysu and Romanian Petrolul. His previous team was Ararat Yerevan.
In Pyunik Edgar Malakyan has become a champion of Armenia three times (2008, 2009 and 2010), he won the Armenian Cup three times, in 2009, 2010 and 2020/21, (2 times in Pyunik and once in Ararat) and became the winner of the Armenian Super Cup as many times (2008, 2010 and 2011).
In 2008 he was named Revelation of the Year by Football Plus weekly newspaper.
He played 232 matches and scored 29 goals in the Armenian Premier League.
Malakyan played in the Armenia U19 and U21 teams and on August 12, 2009, in a friendly match against the Moldova national team he made his debut in the Armenia national team. He played 21 matches in Armenia's national team.
