Tatoyan: Aliyev makes false claims to prepare the ground for fresh military aggression
Armenia’s former Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan, who heads the Tatoyan Foundation, has reacted to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s latest false claims, saying he is preparing the ground for fresh military aggression against Armenia and Artsakh.
In his public speech of January 10, the Azerbaijani president again pushed false narratives, calling the territory of modern-day Armenia “Western Azerbaijan”. He said Armenia “is a country of no value (…) a territory artificially created on ancient Azerbaijani lands”.
“The Azerbaijani president’s speech incites hatred towards Armenians (Armenophobia) and animosity. He is trying to create artificial grounds for military aggression with false claims against Armenia and Artsakh,” Tatoyan said in a statement on Friday.
“In matters of delimitation of state borders, Armenia and the Armenian people are openly threatened with military aggression, with a war by falsification of facts,” he said, adding his foundation has sent Aliyev’s statements to international organizations, including the OSCE, UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, Committee against Racism and Intolerance of the Council of Europe and others.
“The president of Azerbaijan openly speaks in the language of force and threats, uses degrading words and expressions towards the entire Armenian people, the entire population of Armenia and Artsakh in an effort to terrorize them.
“Manifestations of fascism are evident both in this and in his previous speeches, with which he emphasizes the advantages of one people, the Azerbaijani people, over the Armenian people, incites hatred and then talks about peace in these conditions,” the ex-ombudsman said.
