Artsakh hopes for practical steps after European Parliament resolution
The Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Parliamentary Friendship Group with the European Parliament has expressed gratitude to the members of the European Parliament’s Friendship Group with the Artsakh National Assembly and all members of the European Parliament for their appropriate assessment of the difficult situation in Artsakh amid the ongoing Azerbaijan blockade.
The European Parliament on Wednesday approved a resolution in which it urged Azerbaijan to immediately reopen the Lachin corridor, Artsakh’s sole land link with Armenia, withdraw its troops from Armenia’s sovereign territory and release Armenian prisoners of war being held captive in the country.
“In the resolution on the “Humanitarian Consequences of the Blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh”, our colleagues in Europe demand that the Azerbaijani authorities stop the physical and psychological pressure on the 120,000 people of Nagorno-Karabakh who are now hostages, as well as harassment of the Armenian people in general, return to dialogue and lift the blockade of Nagorno-Karabakh in line with their own commitments to prevent further confrontation,” the Artsakh parliamentarians said in a statement on Friday.
“We hope that practical steps will follow the resolution adopted by the European Parliament to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe in Nagorno-Karabakh,” they added.
