Armenian parliament asked to allow opposition MP's prosecution
Armenian Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan has asked National Assembly Speaker Alen Simonyan to give the green light to the prosecution of Armen Charchyan, an MP representing the opposition Hayastan alliance.
The chief prosecutor submitted a motion to the speaker on Monday, also attaching to it a draft parliament decision to allow the launch of criminal proceedings against Charchyan, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
The opposition MP is accused of signing a fake forensic examination report in 2017 as a member of a forensic medical commission into a criminal case.
Under Armenia’s Constitution, an MP may be prosecuted only by the consent of the National Assembly.
