Politician: Azerbaijan steps up efforts to falsify Armenian people's history
Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences has stepped up efforts to falsify the history of Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh), says Artak Zakaryan, a former Armenian deputy defense minister and a senior member of the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA).
"Azerbaijan's National Academy of Sciences seems to have received a new assignment to "refine" the falsification of the history of Armenia and Artsakh in an effort to justify a new genocide against Armenians and the occupation of their territories,” he wrote on Facebook on Monday.
“Azerbaijan seeks the capture of Armenian territories and ethnocide, as well as the withdrawal of Russian troops from the Republics of Artsakh and Armenia as its next strategic goals. They will try to achieve it also through a total falsification of the Armenian people’s history,” Zakaryan stressed.
He quoted Isa Habibbayli, the head of Azerbaijan’s National Academy of Sciences, as saying at a recent meeting: "The concept of return to Western Azerbaijan (referring to Armenia) is part of the strategy of the independent Republic of Azerbaijan. This is a "concept of peace" and Azerbaijan's claims are exclusively "cultural". This concept would be at the heart of the second program of the so-called 'Great Return'."
