Armenian MP: Azerbaijan obviously pushing Artsakh into a trap
Armenian MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem faction says Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) has two main approaches on possible talks with Azerbaijan.
"In the socio-political discourse of Artsakh, I have not come across any serious political forces and politicians who would declare their readiness to live as part of Azerbaijan or in conditions of coexistence,” he wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
“I repeat, in the public discourse, although there are some marginal groups which, defending the political line of the Armenian authorities, in fact, promote the line of Artsakh's surrender.
“However, the main discourse in Artsakh focuses on tactics of struggle. Two main approaches are under discussion. The first one calls for direct dialogue and negotiations with Azerbaijan without any mediators. This approach is also advanced by the Armenian authorities.
“Those promoting this idea in Artsakh claim the past two years have shown that it is possible to speak directly to Azerbaijan and achieve results.
“The second approach calls for mediated talks with Azerbaijan. Proponents of this approach believe that Azerbaijan will do everything it can, even make "concessions" in order to show the expediency of direct negotiations and the redundancy of mediators. However, after pushing the mediators out of the game, Baku will pursue an aggressive policy against the Artsakh people.
“Naturally, Azerbaijan seeks talks without mediators, which is also advocated by the Armenian authorities. Azerbaijan is obviously pushing Artsakh into a trap, trying first to take the Russians, who play the role of a straitjacket for the Azerbaijanis in many issues, out of the game, and then, left alone with Artsakh, to simply devour it,” the lawmaker stated.
