Armenian politician deplores Lavrov's remarks
Armenian politician Artur Ghazinyan, a former MP from the opposition Hayastan bloc, took to social media on Thursday to deplore Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s latest remarks, saying they run counter to the “spirit of the centuries-old Armenian-Russian friendship”.
In an interview with Rossiya 1 TV presenter Dmitry Kiselyov on Thursday, the Russian diplomat said Azerbaijan’s seven districts “were occupied by Armenia for a long time” and Azerbaijan “regained its lands” during the 2020 war.
“The West can do nothing to stir up anti-Russian sentiments in Armenia, Russia is taking all necessary measures to make that happen,” Ghazinyan wrote on Facebook.
“He could have said nothing or could have put it differently, but he decided to say something that should not have been said, which run counter to the spirit of the centuries-old Armenian-Russian friendship, the numerous bilateral and multilateral agreements and the principles and bases of the strategic alliance,” the ex-MP said.
