Authorities want to implement November 9 statement in line with Washington plan, says opposition MP
The Armenian authorities signed a Russian-brokered trilateral statement to end the war in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) on November 9, 2020, but they are now trying to settle the Armenian-Azerbaijani processes on the EU or U.S. platforms, MP Andranik Tevanyan of the opposition Hayastan faction told parliamentary hearings on Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor on Friday.
"This is not only nonsense, but also poses a real threat to Armenia's security,” he stated. “The authorities propose to implement the trilateral statement in line with the Washington plan. Since Armenia has no military and security mechanisms in Artsakh and Armenia, naturally it would announce that Artsakh is part of Azerbaijan, as it has no mechanisms to protect it.”
According to the deputy, the West seeks to remove the Russian military presence from Armenia and Artsakh, which poses major threats to the countries.
"It’s true, the West is not our enemy, but a friend, but they have geopolitical conflicts with Russia and Iran. Armenia in Prague essentially agreed to be a bargaining chip for the implementation of anti-Russian and anti-Iranian policies," he said.
Tevanyan questioned the Armenian-Azerbaijani border demarcation and delimitation through the West's participation given the strong Russian factor in terms of Soviet maps and its military presence in the region.
