Russian political analyst says there will be no return to pre-war situation
The West has waged a hybrid war against Russia, while Ukraine is only an instrument for the implementation of the Western policy, Russian political analyst Dmitry Suslov told a teleconference on the impact of the Russia-West confrontation on Armenia held in Yerevan on Saturday.
The discussion has been organized by the Analytical Center for Strategic Research and Initiatives in collaboration with the Alexander Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.
He stressed that in 2022 it became clear that this hybrid war had become long lasting and existential, and for both Russia and the West.
"In fact, we are dealing with a world war that involves about 50 U.S. allies on the one hand, and Russia, China, Iran and several other countries on the other, as well as a large number of neutral states. And we have to realize that even after the end of the conflict in Ukraine, the bitter confrontation between the West and Russia will continue for many years, and there will not be a return to the state before February 24 last year for the next few decades," the analyst stated.
He stresses that in the current situation the defeat of one of the parties will have severe consequences. The stakes are higher for Russia and its hypothetical defeat would mean a general collapse of its global influence, including in the post-Soviet space.
"NATO is well aware that Russia’s defeat would lead not only to the withdrawal of troops from the line of contact, which existed conditionally until 2014, but also the collapse of the CSTO and the EAEU, and a war of all against all will start in the former Soviet area," Suslov said.
