Armenia's SJC dismisses six judges
The Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) overseeing Armenian courts has formally dismissed six suspended judges, it said in a statement on Wednesday.
The dismissed judges include Ara Kubanyan, Gevorg Narinyan, Boris Bakhshiyan, Albert Petrosyan, Davit Grigoryan and Arusyak Aleksanyan.
Under the recent amendments, the judges can be replaced one month after their suspension. SJC says the new measure will help relieve the overload of pending court cases.
“Before the amendments, the posts of suspended judges were not considered vacant and there were no mechanisms to replace them, which sometimes caused critical situations amid the overloading of courts,” the statement said.
