Armenian parliament allows prosecution of opposition MP
The pro-government majority in the Armenian parliament has greenlighted prosecution of Seyran Ohanyan, the parliamentary leader of the main opposition Hayastan alliance and a former defense minister.
Ohanyan is accused of embezzlement and a large-scale waste of public funds when serving as Armenia’s defense minister from 2008-2016.
MPs from the ruling Civil Contract party on Wednesday overwhelmingly approved three motions filed by Prosecutor General Anna Vardapetyan at a sitting boycotted by the opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions.
The parliament debated one of the motions behind closed doors on Tuesday.
