Catholicos Aram I provides aid to sheltered families in quake-hit Syria
His Holiness Catholicos Aram I of the Great House of Cilicia remains in constant contact with the spiritual and lay leadership of the Armenian community in Syria to closely follow the aftermath and updates following Monday’s devastating earthquake, the Catholicosate of Cilicia reports.
According to the latest update, the Armenian community in Aleppo has four casualties. It also bears the most substantial structural damage, while Latakia and Kessab suffer relatively mild damage.
The local Armenian leadership has set up seven shelters for those in need to find refuge in.
“On behalf of the Catholicosate, His Holiness has allocated financial assistance to procure food for the sheltered families,” it said.
He has also extended a condolence letter to Syrian President Bashar al Assad and expressed his solidarity with its citizens.
