Five Azerbaijani tourists visited Armenia in 2022, statistics show
Azerbaijani tourists continue visits to Armenia. Their unhindered entry into the country began under the current government, that seeks to establish an “era of peace” with Azerbaijan.
Moreover, the authorities have officially confirmed that another country – Azerbaijan – has been added to the list of states with tourism ties with Armenia.
Although the number of Azeri tourists travelling to Armenia is not high, the fact remains that they do visit the country.
A few months ago, we reported that three tourists holding Azerbaijani citizenship visited Armenia from January to March 2022.
According to data from the Statistical Committee seen by Panorama.am, a total of five Azerbaijani tourists visited Armenia in 2022. In fact, the figures are gradually increasing. Naturally, we can't say how many Azerbaijanis holding citizenship of other countries visited Armenia last year.
Incidentally, the number of tourists from Turkey, with which the Armenian authorities are also striving to establish "warm relations”, has increased dramatically. 3,740 Turkish tourists visited Armenia in 2021, while the figure increased 2.5 times to 9,479 in 2022.
Earlier in September 2022, an incident involving Turkish tourists took place in Vedi, a town in Armenia’s Ararat Province. According to the eyewitnesses, they got drunk and began to insult Armenians, while a Turkish woman tried to raise the Turkish flag in central Vedi, which caused indignation among the local residents and a scuffle ensued.
