France, U.S. call for immediate restoration of free movement along Lachin corridor
French Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Catherine Colonna and U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken discussed the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) in a phone call on Friday, stressing the need for the immediate restoration of free movement along the Lachin corridor, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs reported.
“The Minister and the Secretary of State also discussed the situation between Armenia and Azerbaijan, reviewing efforts under way to resolve the conflict and emphasizing the need for free movement along the Lachin corridor to be immediately restored,” the ministry said in a statement.
“The serious humanitarian consequences of the current deadlock on the people of Nagorno-Karabakh are unacceptable, and France and the United States are combining their efforts to end the situation, through their contacts between Prime Minister Pashinyan and President Aliyev,” it added.
Large groups of Azerbaijanis posing as eco-activists have blocked the Lachin corridor, Artsakh’s sole land link with Armenia. since 12 December to protest what they claim is illegal mining operation in Artsakh.
