MP Abrahamyan reacts to Artsakh president's decision to launch constitutional amendment
Armenian opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has reacted to the Artsakh president’s move to launch a constitutional amendment process that would authorize the country’s parliament to elect a president in the event the president’s post becomes vacant during martial law.
In a social media post on Tuesday, the Pativ Unem faction secretary defended legislative changes to tackle possible “force majeure events” in the country, but pointed to “unhealthy inter-political relations and the lack of mutual trust” in Artsakh.
“Such initiatives should be based on a strong political consensus and be fully understood by society,” Abrahamyan wrote, warning otherwise it may be linked to internal political intrigues and foreign influence.
“In the current challenging times, an internal political chaos could have a worse impact on the Artsakh people than the blockade itself with potentially dire consequences,” he added.
