Armenia sent earthquake aid worth over 157 million drams to Syria and Turkey
The Armenian government on Thursday endorsed a decision to allocate over 157 million drams from its reserve fund to the Ministry of Emergency Situations to reimburse the earthquake aid sent to Turkey and Syria.
“Under the draft decision, 157,816,000 drams are to be allocated from the reserve fund of the Armenian government to reimburse the humanitarian aid rendered to earthquake-stricken Turkey and Syria," Minister of Emergency Situations Armen Pambukhchyan said at the cabinet meeting.
He noted that humanitarian cargoes were sent twice by air to Syria and twice by land to Turkey.
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, for his part, recalled the Armenian foreign minister's visit to Turkey, describing it as an “important and symbolic step”.
Armenian rescuers have already returned from Syria, while those sent to Turkey will get back home today, Pashinyan said.
He dismissed the criticism against his government over the relief aid sent to Turkey.
"I consider the criticism against us extremely unacceptable, as I cannot imagine a situation in which millions of people on the other side of the border need help in the wake of a natural disaster, and someone could stay indifferent to it,” he said.
