PACE co-rapporteurs meet with Armenian parliament speaker
Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Alen Simonyan on Friday hosted Kimmo Kiljunen (Finland, SOC) and Boriana Åberg (Sweden, EPP/CD), co-rapporteurs of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) for the monitoring of obligations and commitments by Armenia.
Welcoming the guests, speaker highlighted their visit aimed at getting acquainted with the situation in the wake of Azerbaijan’s blockade of the Lachin Corridor. He underlined the necessity of the co-rapporteurs' visits to Armenia’s border regions and meetings with the people of Artsakh who have taken asylum in Armenia.
“We highly appreciate the work and the involvement of the Assembly and you as co-rapporteurs. I am aware that you made a statement immediately after the blockade of the Lachin Corridor blockade,” Simonyan said, highly appreciating the report on the humanitarian consequences of the blockade of Lachin Corridor being prepared by the Committee on Migration, Refugees and Displaced Persons of the Assembly.
At the meeting, details were provided over the Lachin Corridor crisis and its consequences.
