Two police officers sacked after beating lawyers in Yerevan police station
Two police officers have been dismissed following the assault against two lawyers in Yerevan’s Erebuni Police Station earlier in February, lawyer Ara Zohrabyan said on Tuesday.
The lawyers, Marzpet Avagyan and Emanuel Ananyan, claimed to have been beaten up by police officers during a young suspect’s interrogation on February 10.
“The officers of the Criminal Investigation Department at the Erebuni Police Station, Martun Yeghiazaryan and Vahe Papoyan, who were among those beating the lawyers, have been dismissed,” Zohrabyan wrote on Facebook.
"I am glad that the Interior Ministry has taken a constructive and fair stance on the case. Lawyer should be protected anywhere, especially in a police station.
“Together with other lawyers we will keep the focus on the further developments, including the course of the criminal investigation," he added.
