French Césars broadcast interrupted after climate change activist appears on stage
The ceremony and broadcast of the 48th edition of the French Cesar’s awards were interrupted briefly on Friday night after a climate change activist suddenly appeared on stage, Deadline reported.
The woman wearing a T-shirt bearing the slogan “We have 761 days left” came into the shot on stage just as French actors Ahmed Sylla and Léa Drucker were about to present the prize for Best Male Newcomer.
The broadcast cut to a trailer for a matter of minutes before returning to the live show once the woman had been removed and then continued as if nothing had happened.
A French climate change group called Dernière Rénovation later claimed responsibility for the action on the social networks.
The group was behind a similar stunt during the Roland Garros tennis tournament in Paris last June, in which a woman glued herself to the net ahead of a semi-final match between Casper Ruud and Marin Cilic.
The group said Friday night’s action marked the relaunch of a civil resistance campaign.
