Armenian customs officers foil diamond smuggling attempt
Customs officers of Armenia's State Revenue Committee (SRC) have thwarted an attempt to smuggle diamonds from Turkey.
In a statement on Monday, the SRC said six plastic bags filled with diamond-like stones weighing 14 grams were found in the pockets of a passenger who arrived in Armenia via an Istanbul-Yerevan flight.
He also carried a bag with diamond-like stones weighing 29 grams and 3 other empty bags. In total, the stones weighted around 43 grams.
The man is facing penalties for violation of customs laws.
