Armenian MPs pay tribute to Sumgait pogrom victims
Armenian lawmakers held a minute’s silence to pay tribute to the Sumgait pogrom victims at a plenary parliament session on Tuesday.
Addressing the parliament, opposition Hayastan faction MP Arthur Khachatryan recalled that 35 years ago, from February 27 to 29, Azerbaijan committed yet another genocide against Armenians in the city of Sumgait.
He asked MPs to observe a minute's silence to commemorate the victims of the massacre.
Lawmakers next moved to debate items on the agenda, including a bill on compensation for damage caused to the life or health of servicemen during combat operations, approved by 58 MPs of the ruling Civil Contract faction.
