Doctor says there is no disease called 'salt accumulation'
A circular formation in the lower part of the neck is often called "salt accumulation", while experts claim there can be no such phenomenon as buildup of salt layers in joints between bones.
Speaking to Panorama.am on Monday, pediatric orthopedic traumatologist Ara Antaranyan said the causes of fatty infiltration in the area of the seventh cervical vertebra are numerous, including poor diet and low physical activity.
"The seventh cervical vertebra is larger because there is a fat layer there. Often, when it gets a little big, people call it "salt accumulation". Meanwhile, if there is excess adipose tissue, it first and foremost accumulates in the fatty layer, making it more pronounced,” the doctor notes.
He calls for a change of diet and lifestyle to get rid of the problem without surgery.
"The claims about salt buildup are absolutely groundless. If you open up one of the joints in such a patient's spine, you can see its natural wear-and-tear damage caused by the “struggle” with itself. So, you have to watch your health," Antaranyan says.
