Opposition MP blasts Armenian authorities for army general's arrest
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem bloc chided the Armenian authorities over the arrest of Major-General Grigory Khachaturov, the son of the former chief of the Armenian army’s General Staff, Yuri Khachaturov.
In a social media post on Saturday, he claimed the retired army officer’s arrest was primarily aimed at discrediting the Khachaturov family.
He pointed to high honor enjoyed by Khachaturov and his father among the military despite retirement.
“I believe it is no exaggeration to say that the attacks against the Khachaturov family also directly target the armed forces and military officers, because the Khachaturovs have not yet completed their mission to serve the country. Second, any military officer, both active and retired, knows that they may face the same fate as Grigory,” the MP wrote.
“The authorities are "preparing" for a new border escalation they have warned about by isolating the country’s competent forces,” he stated.
