Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov started talks in Moscow on Monday afternoon.

In his opening remarks, Lavrov said the trade between Armenia and Russia almost doubled last year.

"Russia is Armenia’s top trade partner, the leading investor in the country's economy. 2022 was a record-breaking year; the trade volume [between the counters] almost doubled to nearly $5 billion,” Lavrov said, adding that settlements between the countries are still made in dollars, which “is temporary.”

The Russian diplomat stressed that it helped Armenia ensure a record GDP growth.

Referring to regional security, Lavrov said: "One of our key tasks is to resolve the situation around the Lachin Corridor, and, in general, the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh. We have no doubt that the trilateral statement between the leaders of Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia remains the keystone of the implementation of all decisions in order to stabilize the situation in the economic, military-political and international legal spheres.”

The Russian foreign minister reiterated Moscow’s readiness to help Armenia and Azerbaijan delimit their border, unblock transport links and agree the terms of a peace treaty.
