Opposition MP reacts to Azerbaijani troop buildup, movements on border with Armenia
MP Tigran Abrahamyan of the opposition Pativ Unem bloc has called for a comprehensive analysis of Azerbaijan’s military movements and buildup on the border with Armenia to reveal their true purposes.
In a social media post on Friday, he claimed the movements of Azerbaijani troops are mostly aimed at putting pressure on Armenia in the ongoing peace talks.
“In some cases, they seek to imitate actions to mislead Armenia and make it wrongly assess the situation on the frontline,” Abrahamyan wrote.
He also suggested that Azerbaijan may be planning a surprise attack on Armenia.
“The most dangerous thing is when the Armenian side begins to consider the regular enemy troop movements as normal everyday phenomena, then faces an unexpected attack,” the MP said, stressing Azerbaijan has repeatedly resorted to such a practice over the recent years.
“Undoubtedly, the possible resumption of military and political actions is influenced by the current situation in the country, the viability of institutions, the regional background and the tactics of confrontation between the major players, but, as a rule, it manifests itself on the battlefield in the end.
“The enemy’s activities should be comprehensively analyzed in order to prevent the latter's possible attack and advances in time, as well as to properly organize the defense on the line of contact,” Abrahamyan noted.
