Customs officers thwart illegal caviar exports from Armenia
Customs officers and the National Security Service of Armenia have foiled the illegal exports of a large batch of whitefish caviar, which smugglers tried to take out of the country under the guise of trout caviar.
In a statement on Monday, the State Revenue Committee said during the inspection of a cargo at the Bagratashen border checkpoint between Armenia and Georgia, it was found out that 4,260 kg of whitefish caviar were inside it instead of 3,840 kg trout caviar declared by the exporters.
The cargo has been confiscated, since the exports of whitefish caviar from Armenia are temporarily banned.
A criminal case has been launched into the incident. The preliminary probe is underway.
