Armenia parliament committee to debate nomination of candidates for ombudsperson
The Armenian parliament’s Standing Committee on Protection of Human Rights and Public Affairs will hold a meeting in the near future to debate the nomination of candidates for a new ombudsperson, MP Taguhi Tovmasyan, head of the committee, said on Wednesday.
"In the near future, the committee will convene a special sitting to debate the nomination of candidates for a human rights defender," she said in a statement.
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions have nominated political activist Edgar Ghazaryan as new ombudsperson, while the ruling Civil Contract faction has nominated Deputy Prosecutor General Anahit Manasyan for the vacant post.
