Anahit Voskanyan: While identifying problems in this difficult situation, political and military analysts nevertheless see some solutions. I believe the reason for the failure to reach them is the absence of the first step.

What is happening now is a display of devotion or whims by individuals (depending on who it refers to).

What is the feasible step that must be taken to reach the series of solutions offered by experts? This unnoticed step for me is the most important and difficult one.

Orientalist and South Caucasus expert Armen Petrosyan: I believe that this step is primarily ideological rather than practical. There is another circumstance which is extremely important. Any proposed solution should be consistent with the ongoing global developments, i.e. it should take into account global processes and the new world order. Thus, everything is relative and there is no static situation.

With this in mind, the key priority is to define a nationwide goal: What do we want as a nation, as a society and as a state? Because any action is based on the realization of the announced goals.

The goals must be both long-term and short-term, taking into account the global developments I talked about. Crucially, the key to success in the face of our problems and global realities is the national unity.

It is extremely challenging, but possible. It is conditioned by agreements between political actors and clear mutual guarantees. The goal is to channel all resources into countering external challenges with a clear division of roles in the short run before focusing on internal problems in more static conditions. The most objective obstacle in this matter is the absence of someone capable of arranging a dialogue amid the split in society and even internal hostility. Alas, there is no such person now (the last one was Charles Aznavour), so the main expectation is proactive behavior by those at the helm of the state in the current situation, and on the opposite side – a more constructive stance.

And my general goal, as an ordinary citizen, is to build a democratic and powerful country where the rule of law prevails. It’s a difficult but measurable goal. Solutions to the problems we are facing will not be easy, we cannot avoid losses...
