Expert: Armenia's Syunik a priority for Iran
Yerevan-based geopolitical strategist and regional security expert, Varuzhan Geghamyan, Ph.D., has hailed Iran’s pick as its new ambassador to Armenia.
Iran on Thursday named Mehdi Sobhani, a career diplomat who is currently its ambassador to Syria, as new ambassador to Armenia to replace Abbas Badakhshan Zohouri in the post.
“Iran appoints new ambassador to Armenia – Mehdi Sobhani, who served as ambassador of Iran to Syria from 2021,” Geghamyan tweeted on Friday.
He recalled that in 2022 Iran appointed Morteza Abedin Varamin, who served in Yemen, as its consul-general to Armenia's Syunik Province.
“Clear signs of Armenia's & particularly Syunik's priority for Iran,” the expert stressed.
