Armenian soldier killed in accidental exchange of fire – Defense Ministry
An Armenian soldier has died in what the authorities say was an accidental exchange of fire between Armenian troops amid extremely low visibility arising from dense fog late on Friday.
Simultaneously, shots were fired by the Azerbaijani military as well, the Armenian Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.
After the incident, the body of conscript Hrachya Sarukhanyan was found with a fatal gunshot wound. Another soldier suffered a non-life-threatening injury, the ministry said.
An investigation into the circumstances of the incident is underway.
“The Defense Ministry shares the sorrow of the heavy loss and expresses support to the family and fellow soldiers of Hrachya Sarukhanyan,” it said.
