'A true devotee': Armenian town mourns loss of soldier killed in Azeri attack
Three settlements in Armenia, Talin, Gyumri and Vayk, are mourning the loss of the soldiers killed in the latest Azerbaijani provocation.
Four Armenian soldiers were killed and six wounded in a border skirmish provoked by Azerbaijani forces on Tuesday afternoon.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said Armenian troops came under Azerbaijani fire when they were conducting engineering work near Tegh, a border village in southeastern Syunik Province.
The deceased servicemen were identified as Artur Sahakyan, Mkrtich Harutyunyan, Henrik Kocharyan and Narek Sargsyan.
Mkrtich Harutyunyan, better known as Mko, was a special forces soldier from the town of Talin. He was married and had two minor daughters.
Tributes have been pouring in for the soldier since Tuesday. His friends and relatives described him as an “intellectual military man, a good friend and a true devotee to the homeland.”
“My pain is indescribable. The country has lost a true hero who did not hesitate for a moment to give his life for the homeland,” one of the soldier’s friends, Taron Melkonyan, wrote on Facebook.
“RIP my hero friend! We will always remember your noble and virtuous spirit,” another said.
