Armenian parliament installs new ombudsperson
The Armenian National Assembly on Wednesday installed Anahit Manasyan as the country’s new human rights defender.
All 69 MPs taking part in the confirmation vote backed her candidacy.
Manasyan, a former deputy chief prosecutor, had been nominated for the vacant post by the ruling Civil Contract faction.
The opposition Hayastan and Pativ Unem factions boycotted the election.
The nomination of opposition candidate Edgar Ghazaryan was not approved by the parliament’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.
Anahit Manasyan is set to replace Kristinne Grigoryan who stepped down on 23 January.
