U.S. deplores deadly clashes on Armenia-Azerbaijan border
The United States Department of State has deplored Tuesday's deadly clashes on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border, Voice of America's Armenian Service reports.
Four Armenian soldiers were killed and six wounded in the border skirmishes provoked by Azerbaijani forces on Tuesday afternoon.
The Armenian Defense Ministry said Armenian troops came under Azerbaijani fire when they were conducting engineering work near Tegh, a border village in southeastern Syunik Province.
“We deplore the deadly clashes between Armenian and Azerbaijani forces on April 11 which led to several casualties,” the State Department told VOA in response to a request for comment.
“We offer our condolences to the families of those killed and wounded. There can be no military solution to the conflict, and the use of force to resolve disputes is unacceptable,” it said.
The U.S. State Department stated sustainable peace can be achieved only through negotiations, adding the use of force undermines talks.
