Azerbaijani soldiers who crossed into Armenia arrested on several charges
The two Azerbaijani servicemen, who were detained after crossing into Armenia last week, have been placed under arrest on several charges, the Prosecutor General's Office said on Monday.
The soldiers, identified as Agshin Babirov and Hussein Akhundov, have been charged with illegal border crossing and smuggling firearms and ammunition into Armenia in a conspiracy involving several others.
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction granted the motions filed by the National Security Service to jail the two Azeri nationals pending trial.
The Prosecutor Office’s promised to keep the people posted on the criminal probe.
The Azerbaijani soldiers were spotted and captured by Armenian civilians before being handed over to law-enforcement authorities.
