Opposition MP slams ongoing 'unlawful' arrest of army general
Opposition MP Tigran Abrahamyan has denounced the Armenian authorities for the ongoing “unlawful” arrest of Major-General Grigory Khachaturov, the son of the former chief of the Armenian army’s General Staff, Yuri Khachaturov.
Armenia’s Court of Appeals allowed law-enforcement authorities to arrest the prominent general on charges of money laundering strongly denied by him on March 16.
"General Grigory Khachaturov has been unlawfully arrested on totally fabricated charges for a month now,” the MP wrote on Facebook on Monday.
Abrahamyan, secretary of the opposition Pativ Unem faction, claimed the arrest “would not help silence him and keep him from fighting.”
“The current leaders who are striving for power can hardly understand that there are forces, groups, figures or just individuals in the country for whom the homeland and national values are more important than any post and power,” he stated.
