Armenia, Azerbaijan must recognize each other's territorial integrity, Pashinyan says
A peace deal between Armenia and Azerbaijan is possible only if the two countries recognize each other’s territorial integrity, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan insisted on Tuesday.
"A peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan will become real if the two countries recognize clearly, without ambiguities and pitfalls, each other’s territorial integrity and agree not to make territorial claims against each other,” he said in the parliament.
Pashinyan said he had agreed on it with the Azerbaijani president during their meetings in Prague and Sochi in 2022. However, Yerevan and Baku continue to trade accusations of failure to comply with the agreements, he added.
“I want to reiterate that the Republic of Armenia fully recognizes the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, and we expect Azerbaijan to do the same by recognizing the territory of the former Armenian Soviet Socialist Republic as the Republic of Armenia,” Pashinyan stressed.
