ICRC workers visit two Azerbaijani soldiers arrested in Armenia
Employees of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) on Wednesday met with two Azerbaijani soldiers arrested in Armenia, ICRC Armenia Office Communications Program Manager Zara Amatuni told Panorama.am.
The servicemen, Agshin Babirov and Huseyn Akhundov, were captured by Armenian residents in Syunik Province before being handed over to law-enforcement authorities last week.
They have been arrested on charges of illegal border-crossing and smuggling firearms and ammunition into Armenia. One of them is also accused of killing the security guard of the Zangezur Copper Molybdenum Combine (ZCMC).
"Private meetings were held with them,” Amatuni said, adding they were allowed to exchange letters with their families.
She did not give any other details, saying they are discussed with the country’s authorities.
